Canada Goose - Branta canadensis

Description

Brownish body with long black neck, black head and white cheek patch.

Voice: a musical honking

Range: Breeds from Alaska east to Baffin Island and south through Illinois and Massachusetts. Winters south to northern Mexico.

This is the larger race of this Brant. There is a smaller race which ranges from 22-26" and lacks the white cheek patch.

These pictures were taken at a local park on May 9, 1998. The goslings were especially cute. We saw several broods
of varying sizes. You can find many semidomesticated
geese at city parks and on reservoirs.
