Size: 11-13½"

Black with glossy purple or bronze tones. The head has a bluish sheen. Eyes are yellow. Young birds are dark brown with dark eyes.

Voice: a clucking "tschaak"

Range: Breeds from Alberta to Nova Scotia and south throughout the eastern two-thirds of the United States. Winters in the southern two-thirds of this range.

I have to admit I like Grackles. They're the absolute underbird. Their yellow eyes make them have an angry look about them that only their Mother could love, and their voice is as pleasing to the ear as chalk scraped on a blackboard.
