Black head, blue-black back and wings, black tail with white tip and white breast. Red feathers usually concealed on crown.

Voice: sharp "tzee" or "tzeet"  Makes rapid kit or kitter calls.

Range: Breeds from British Columbia across Canada to the Maritime Provinces and south to Northern California, Central Texas, the Gulf Coast and Florida. Winters in the tropics.

Called the Kingbird because it aggressively protects its territory. It will attack larger birds, even crows and hawks, that dare to venture too near its nest. Feeds on insects and berries.
