with gray streaks on top, white below with brown streaks. Large spot in the center of the
breast.
Voice: 4 notes and a trill
Range: Breeds throughout the southern two-thirds of Canada into all of the United States.
Winters in the southern two-thirds of the breeding range.
The most widespread songbird in North America, or so they say. Some years there are more
than others in our yard visiting our feeders. They are much shyer than the other sparrows
and seem to prefer staying out of the way if other birds are around. |
